About the Department

The Department provides the research framework for the engineering study programmes in Medical Biotechnology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering as well as the Chemical and Biological Sciences Programmes.

In both teaching and research we combine theory and practice and emphasize collaboration with companies and public sector organizations both nationally and internationally. Our teaching covers programmes at all levels from Bachelor of Science (BSc) to Master of Science (MSc), as well as Doctoral Programmes (PhD). All teaching is based on the "Aalborg Model" of Problem-Based Learning, where students carry out project work in groups often in close collaboration with companies. Students will off course also be introduced to theories and methods by participating in lectures, courses and laboratory work.

When it comes to research the Department aims to make visible, expand and systematize its overall cooperation with the surrounding society. Currently, we are working on more than 140 external projects. Most research is carried out in our well-equipped laboratories operated by skilled and knowledgeable personnel.
