the nervous system across species

Guest lecture by Joao Coimbra, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa

Time

05.12.2019 kl. 14.00 - 15.00

Description

Comparative analysis of the nervous system across species offers relevant insights to understanding animal behaviour. In the laboratory of Neuroanatomy at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, we use a range of neuroanatomical methods to investigate the structure of brains and eyes of a wide range of species. In this talk, I’ll present important findings of our studies in comparative brain architecture and retinal organisation in mammals. I’ll highlight the importance of alternative animal models for translational research and the important role of zoos in supporting comparative studies.

Everyone is welcome
