Aalborg University’s’ (AAU) researchers are among the world leaders in glass research, and Wednesday the Department of Chemistry & Bioscience launched a two-day programme packed with research and industry speakers.

On the occasion of the United Nations’ proclamation of the International Year of Glass 2022 (IYOG2022), this symposium celebrates the essential role of contemporary glass in all its forms. The symposium addresses glass science, technology, application, building glass, art glass and glass history, featuring contributions from glass research, public institutions, and industry.

Age of glass

The fact that United Nations named 2022 the International Year of Glass is a great recognition of the importance of glass in our society – Some even say that we live in a "glass age".

Glass is one of the most fundamental materials in the world and Aalborg University are among the world leaders in glass research. With our symposium, we want to celebrate glass and IYOG, especially focusing on the activities taking place in the Nordic countries.

The main organizer of the symposium at AAU, The Danish Ceramic Society, has created a diverse program and over two days you will see presentations that sum up and manifest our collective experience in various fields of glass knowledge.

Glass at Aalborg University

Aalborg University has a long tradition of glass research. In 1998 the global company Rockwool formed a strong research based partnership with AAU and today more than 20 researchers work in our world leading glass laboratory. The research span from unravelling the nature of glass to applied research on developing stronger and more durable glasses.
